Private because there is no server
Most finance apps promise to look after your data on their servers. SproutSave does not have any, so there is no copy of your spending to lose, hand over, or be asked for.
Nothing leaves your phone

PIN app lock
A dedicated PIN lock with configurable auto-lock timing keeps the app closed to anyone who picks up your phone.
Receipts read on the phone
Snap a receipt and the amount and merchant are read on-device. Crop, rotate or replace the photo later; it is never uploaded.

How SproutSave keeps your data private
Not a setting you have to find and switch on — it is what happens when an app has nowhere to send anything.
There is nothing to send
SproutSave has no account system and no backend. Nothing you record is transmitted, so there is no copy of your spending anywhere but your phone.
Locked down on the device
Entries sit in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read. The free text you write — notes and merchant names — is encrypted with a key kept in Android's secure storage.
A PIN locks the app itself
Add a PIN with an auto-lock timeout so your ledger is closed to anyone who picks up your phone. The PIN is stored as a hash, never as the digits you typed.
Backups are yours to keep
Because nothing is on a server, nothing is backed up for you. Settings makes an encrypted backup file, or a CSV export, that you store wherever you choose.

What is SproutSave?

Is SproutSave available yet?
Yes — SproutSave is live on Google Play for Android, and it's free.
Do I need an account to use SproutSave?
There's no account at all. No sign-up, no sign-in, no email — because there's no server to sign in to. Open the app and start tracking.
Where is my data stored?
In the app's private storage on your phone, where other apps can't read it. Notes and merchant names are encrypted on top of that, with a key held in Android's secure storage. A PIN app lock, if you set one, is stored only as a hash.
Do my receipt photos get uploaded?
No. Receipt photos stay in the app's private storage. Reading the amount and merchant from a receipt happens on the phone, using Google ML Kit bundled inside the app, so the photo is never sent anywhere for processing.
How do I back up or delete my data?
Settings has an encrypted backup file you keep yourself, and a CSV export. Since nothing is on a server, there's no account to delete — Settings → Reset all data clears your ledger, and uninstalling or clearing the app's storage removes everything. See our account deletion page.
Does SproutSave show ads?
One sponsored card on the home screen, served by Google AdMob — that's how the app is funded. The ad request carries nothing about you: no amounts, merchants, categories, income or location. There are no full-screen ads and no ads between actions. See our privacy policy.
Does SproutSave work offline?
Entirely. There's nothing to sync, so you never need a connection to log, edit or review anything. The app only reaches the network to fetch currency exchange rates and to request its one ad.
Is there an iPhone version?
